Year: 2020The Future of Everything is The Wall Street Journal’s magazine series exploring what’s next across culture, science, and technology. For this feature, we visualized a future in which de-extinction moves from theory to reality. The photos treat the hypothesis as actuality.
A cracked egg with a red living eye is depicted on the cover image. In another, a museum display suggests a passenger pigeon breaking free, and a woolly mammoth reaches for bananas at breakfast.
Prehistoric scale collides with contemporary set design, making the concept feel incredibly close to the present day. The scenes balance surrealism with stark straight-forwardness, prompting us to question the moral ethics of reviving extinct species in the 21st century.
